Grief is the acute pain that accompanies loss. Because it is a reflection of what we love, the pain can feel like a huge storm of unavoidable despair. Waves of grief will come and go. Grief is a slow process of coming to terms of inevitable change that we do not want to accept. People come to understand losses rather quickly in intellectual terms, but are challenged with emotional and behavioral understanding, which takes far longer. Adjusting to a world without someone you loved is difficult. Everyone’s journey through grief is as unique as a fingerprint, no two are the same.
Tammy offers in-person counseling and also virtual counseling in all 50 states.
Virtual grief counseling offers the convenience of accessing support for loss from anywhere with an internet connection, often through video calls or online platforms. It can be beneficial for individuals who find it difficult to attend in-person sessions due to geographical limitations, physical limitations, or scheduling conflicts.
Online platforms like Zoom, Skype, or Google Meet, and many other ways can facilitate virtual counseling sessions, allowing for real-time interaction between the counselor and the individual.
First, please call or email us and we will set a date for a free consultation for at least 30 minutes. After consultation, if you feel Companion Through Grief is a good fit for you and your journey through grief, we will then discuss the best way for you to connect to a platform of your choice to hold our sessions. We will then set a date at that time, if you are ready. Each session will last 60 minutes.
During our sessions we will discuss resources, ways to honor your beloved one, coping skills, continuing bonds, memories, and anything you want to talk about. After each session, if I have resources to send you, I will send them to you by email. Resources are always included in the session at no cost.
Five Senses Sensory Counseling includes using the five senses along with music, art, nature, play, equine assisted counseling and movement. Companion Through Grief offers different services for all ages that stimulate the five senses to bring relaxation, calming, awareness of emotions, enjoyment, and healthy self-care skills. We also utilize aromatherapy, the art and science of smell whereby a particular scent stimulates smell receptors in the nose. The receptors send messages to the emotional part of the brain which contains memory, emotions, feelings and creativity.
Meet Spanky, one of our therapy miniature horses!
Spanky is 28 years old. He is a gelding. He has been a service animal at many levels and for many years. Like many horses, Spanky is sensitive to human feelings, so when a person communicates to them through nonverbal cues during a counseling session, he can provide feedback that promotes a sense of acceptance and comfort, along with aiding in emotion regulation and insight into themselves and others.
A summer camp for kids grieving loved ones.
Camp Kids Connect ™ was developed for children and teens ages 7- 17 years old to connect with each other and witness that they are not alone. The impact of discovering an environment that provides a safe space to play, explore, communicate, learn, connect with others, and witness you can still have fun and laugh as you honor your beloved one. Day camps are divided up by age and held at different times.
We hold one day camp, weekly day camps, and special events camps.
Children with disabilities are welcomed with open arms. Parents are required to stay during the camp. I set up fun activities for the parents to enjoy and connect with other parents while they are able to see their child during the camp, almost everywhere across the farm.
All camps are day camps. There are no overnight camps.
We are in the process of building a Grief Center on a little farm in Louisville, Kentucky. The center is almost complete and ready to open this summer. Our primary focus is providing a supportive and nurturing environment for individuals, couples and families to navigate the complexities of grief following a loss. At our center you will witness hope, growth, coping skills, continuing bonds, ways to honor your beloved one throughout life, plus so much more. We look forward to seeing families and individuals there soon. In the meantime, we will continue to see families in our Louisville home office.
When you feel ready to talk, we’re here to listen. Reach out and let us support you through this difficult time with compassion and care.
